Chelsea’s System Collapse Due to Pochettino

It seems like Mauricio Pochettino’s time at Chelsea is coming to an end due to poor performances. Just like last season at this time, when they were already on the brink of bringing in a third coach, Chelsea is currently in the lower half of the table with only 31 points after being defeated by Wolverhampton (4:2) on Sunday. Conceding four goals against Liverpool might not be as bad, but doing so against Wolves has set off alarm bells at Stamford Bridge, and now more than ever Mauricio Pochettino is close to being sacked.

His team lacks identity, he has tried “a thousand players” and nothing has worked, and it seems that he does not have the trust of the locker room. Though none of his players have turned against him directly, at least publicly, his wife Tiago Silva has done so. Isabel Silva, who often speaks out on Chelsea matters, especially while Tiago Silva was captain, wrote: “It’s time for changes… if you wait too long, sometimes it’s too late,” which many interpreted as an appeal for Pochettino to leave.

It’s true that he has also had major problems with injuries to key players, but that cannot be an excuse for a club that only competes domestically and has a roster of 30 or more players. This season, Chelsea has nine wins, four draws, and a staggering ten losses in the Premier League, and the only thing Pochettino has going for him is the qualification for the League Cup final where they will play against Liverpool at Wembley.
