Boris Becker is no longer the coach of Holger Rune
Former coach of Novak Djokovic, a tennis giant, has announced that he is parting ways with the young player. Boris Becker, the former coach, stated that he is stepping down from his position as Holger Rune’s head coach due to professional and personal commitments. Becker expressed his respect for their time together and wished Rune the best, emphasizing that he will always be his biggest supporter. Holger Rune, currently ranked seventh in the world, is 20 years old and recently faced a disappointing result at the Australian Open.
Despite being the eighth seed, he was defeated in the second round by a French outsider, Arthur Cazaux, who entered the tournament as a wildcard. Becker had insisted that Rune compete without a cap and jewelry to avoid distractions during matches, a practice that had benefited him in his own successful playing career. Their collaboration, however, came to an end after reaching the semifinals in their first tournament together in Basel. It is worth noting that Becker declared bankruptcy in 2017 and received a prison sentence of two and a half years in April 2022 for concealing his assets.
After serving eight months of the sentence, he was released on December 15, 2022, and deported to Germany. (MONDO – M.Š)
